SWISS ALPS OVERVIEW

Switzerland is regarded as one of the few most important countries when considering its development in modern skiing. The popular resort of St Moritz is where the first ever recorded winter ski holiday in the world took place. It was also host the Winter Olympics in 1936. Switzerland offers what is generally agreed to be unbeatable scenic views. The spectacular Alpine mountainscape is not only mesmerizing; It doubles as a provider of fantastic ski-worthy slopes and drops. The Swiss are known for taking the preservation of their mountains very seriously...And it shows. Some resorts offer unlimited off-piste ski and snowboarders get to enjoy a satisfying variety of challenges from a pick of snowparks, depending on their choice of resort.

The chocolate-box villages retain the character you'd expect to see on Christmas cards. It is evident that the Swiss also pay a great deal of care into their hospitality when you consider the first-rate quality of food. Generally, the service delivered in establishments is unrivalled. Each of these positive factors give an insight as to why Swiss resorts attract the rich and famous. Many of the more upmarket Swiss resorts come with a notable reputation for carrying a hefty pricetag but, this is to be expected when you take into account just what you get in return. A lot of snow-seeking celebrities and ski fans make areas such as St Moritz, Davos, Klosters, Zermatt and Gstaad a hot-spot for developing the most chic venues. Michelin Star restaurants and luxury spas are popular finds, as are chalets which exude contemporary style, whilst still keeping with the traditional Alpine theme.

Many of the top Swiss resorts sport a car-free rule. Initially, one might consider this an off-putting inconvenience but, it has actually further enhanced the Swiss ski holiday experience. Despite the previously mentioned issues some have about the expense, many argue that it is no more expensive than other popular Alpine destinations. Besides, Switzerland actually also offers some of the best lift ticket value in the world for children, making it exceedingly family-friendly. Prices are often up to 50% less than adult fare when in other countries they reach to approx 70-80% of the full cost for kids as young as four. Many Swiss resorts don’t even charge for children until age eight or nine, debunking the misconceptions of it being too expensive - Even if it does carry about it, an air of exclusivity...

Those interested in Swiss culture and history will be glad to discover a multitude of museums. World famous glaciers, scenic train routes, ice caves and frozen lakes round off an endless list of reasons why Switzerland is a popular destination of choice and an experience all snow lovers will enjoy.
